COSHOCTON − Lyn Mizer, Executive Director of the United Way of Coshocton County, is retiring after 11 years leading the organization.

She is among 11 others who have been the face of the United Way since 1978, although she has been in the position longer than any other director.

“I am honored to have been a part of such a devoted team of board members and partner program leaders and volunteers who are the best of the best of Coshocton.  To work with and for great people all united by serving Coshocton has been a blessing and privilege,” Mizer said in a press release.

The United Way Board has been hard at work to find her replacement so that a seamless transition happens, the release stated.  There will be some overlap so that Mizer can introduce her successor to the many people who volunteer for the United Way.  Mizer knows the success of the United Way is based largely on trust and transparency so that donors understand where their hard-earned donations go and the benefits they produce.

A new director has been chosen, but not yet named. Mizer said her end date hasn't been set so she can work with the new director for a time.

“By taking time to introduce him to those champions in the work places who are tasked with running their UW campaign, they will get to see they are in great hands and he will be available to them whenever he is needed,” Mizer said.  “Coshocton will be in good hands.”

Steve Oster, president of the local United Way board called Mizer a stable force for the United Way and community for a long time.

"She cares about people, agencies and the individuals who live in Coshocton County. Her heart and passion shine through every day and she will be missed," Oster said. "United Way is strong because of her dedication and commitment to the community.”

The release mentioned the current upswing in Coshocton with an obvious rising in momentum and pride in Coshocton.  With new businesses popping up along with the developers seeing the potential in Coshocton, the many collaborations between city and county, the tremendous work Our Town Coshocton is contributing, not to mention all the great services provided here, the United Way will continue to serve Coshocton and its residents for many years to come.

“I will miss being a part of that network of services that grows health and prosperity, but more importantly I will miss the people behind the scenes working to grow Coshocton. I am proud to call those people my friends,” Mizer said.

Partner agencies include the American Red Cross, Coshocton C.A.R.E.S., Coshocton County Handicapped Society, First Step Family Intervention Services, Girl Scouts of USA, Maternal and Child Health Center, Boy Scouts of America, Salvation Army, Rising Tide Aquatic Club and the Ridgewood, Coshocton, River View East and River View West recreation organizations. The United Way also funds and assists with other program, such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

The next meeting of the board is at 4 p.m. Aug. 24 in the basement of the Coshocton County Job and Family Services. The next meeting of the executive team is at noon Sept. 12 at the United Way office. Learn more about the United Way of Coshocton County at its website.
