Missouri football is adding a seventh home game for the 2022 season with a scheduling shake-up announced Tuesday.

Missouri has added a home game against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 3, the first-ever matchup between the programs.

Louisiana Tech recorded a 3-9 record in 2021 and will have a first-year head coach in Sonny Cumbie who served as the interim coach for Texas Tech this past season.

Missouri's original 2022 schedule had the Tigers playing on the road at Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 3 as the second installment of a three-game series with the Blue Raiders. MU is still slated to play MTSU in 2023.

"We worked hard to ensure a seventh home game," Missouri athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois wrote in a statement. "It's important to our football program, fans and local economy to have a full slate of games at Faurot Field. We look forward to welcoming Louisiana Tech to Columbia for the first time."

The Tigers' 2022 home schedule includes Georgia, Kentucky, Arkansas and Vanderbilt in Southeastern Conference play.

The first of the three-game series with MTSU in 2016 was a 51-45 win for the Blue Raiders in Barry Odom's first year as Tigers head coach.

MTSU went 7-6 in 2021 and defeated Toledo in the Bahamas Bowl. Now, Missouri will face a Louisiana Tech team that has a new coach before heading to Kansas State to play the Wildcats, who went 8-5 in 2021 and defeated LSU in the Texas Bowl.

“I’m grateful to our administration and everyone involved in bringing a seventh home game to Faurot Field next season,” Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz wrote in a statement. “Game day brings a fun energy to our city and our fans. We look forward to hosting Coach Cumbie and the Bulldogs in September.”
