Mizzou football hires Texas State offensive coordinator Jacob Peeler as receivers coach

Head coach Eli Drinkwitz's focus on Missouri football's offense continues this offseason.

Texas State offensive coordinator Jacob Peeler is heading to Columbia to become Missouri's wide receivers coach, the program announced Tuesday.

Peeler led the Bobcats' offense the past two seasons after previously coaching wide receivers at Mississippi from 2017 to 2019, when he oversaw two of the best collegiate receivers of the past decade in D.K. Metcalf and A.J. Brown.

“I respect and appreciate the culture Coach Drinkwitz is building here at Missouri,” Peeler wrote in a statement. “It’s an exciting time for the program. I look forward to working with the staff and student-athletes as we strive for success, on and off the field.”

Peeler helped Brown become Ole Miss' all-time leader in career receiving yards with 2,984. Brown had at least 100 yards receiving in 12 games.

Peeler also helped recruit and coach wide receiver Elijah Moore, who played three seasons at Ole Miss, declared for the 2021 NFL Draft and was selected by the New York Jets as a second-round pick.

Peeler was promoted to the Rebels' co-offensive coordinator in 2019, before departing as Ole Miss fired ousted coach Matt Luke's staff and hired new coach Lane Kiffin's staff heading into the 2020 season.

While at Texas State under head coach Jake Spavital in 2021, Peeler guided the Bobcats to an average of 342.3 yards per game. Bobcats receivers Javen Banks and Marcell Barbee each recorded over 35 receptions and 520 yards while scoring five touchdowns apiece.

The addition of Peeler shifts some offensive structuring on the Tigers' coaching staff.

Tigers assistant coach Bush Hamdan will now focus solely on coaching quarterbacks. Hamdan coached both quarterbacks and receivers last year.

The Tigers have the likes of Dominic Lovett, Tauskie Dove, Mookie Cooper and Chance Luper returning at receiver. Peeler gets to coach those players alongside five-star signee Luther Burden and four-star signee Ja'Marion Wayne.

“Coach Peeler has a proven ability to recruit and develop student-athletes,” Drinkwitz wrote. “Adding Jacob and his coaching experience is an opportunity to strengthen our staff, and utilize our coaching staff better moving forward.”
