Be MKE: Bucks rings, an ice cream contest and the city's RNC pitch involved Bloody Marys

Who we are. Where we go. What we need to know.

So, last week's newsletter didn't age well.

Food for thought: Maybe I'd be better at picking Purple Door's new ice cream flavor than the winner of the NCAA Tournament. Yes, I did actually have Marquette winning it all.

Anyway, Purple Door is holding a contest to give people the chance to come up with its next ice cream flavor, per its website.

Then, after the ice cream company narrows it down to eight, customers will be able to try them out and vote for their favorite.

The winning ice cream will be placed on Purple Door's rotating flavor menu.

Got a flavor idea of your own? Here's how to enter it.

Let’s talk business

The latest on Couture: The skyscraper got its first layer of concrete last week. Developer Rick Barrett, of Barrett Lo Visionary Development LLC, said the project will be completed in one year. The development — which was unveiled a decade ago — will feature 322 high-end apartments, 42,600 square feet of restaurant and retail space and a transit concourse for The Hop and the East-West Bus Rapid Transit.

Milwaukee Brewing Company has put itself up for sale, according to a statement from New Mill Capital, a national acquisition and disposition firm. The sale would include the company's brewery operation near Fiserv Forum and the Milwaukee Ale House in the Historic Third Ward. New Mill Capital said it is beginning the process of selling the company immediately and added that it is "focused on finding a strategic buyer for the assets and operation" of Milwaukee Brewing Co.

As a proud record player owner, this one hurt. After 30 years, The Exclusive Company will be closing its east side Milwaukee location within the next few months. But there's hope. Two longtime employees are looking to keep the building in the record store business and reopen it as Lilliput Records.

Sprecher Brewing Co., metro Milwaukee's longest-running craft brewery, released a new line of craft lemonades. The line offers both still and sparkling versions of original lemonade, raspberry lemonade, strawberry lemonade and blueberry lemonade. The Glendale-based company is already known for its craft beers and sodas.

What isn’t canceled

Machine Gun Kelly sold out The Rave's Eagles Ballroom last October. Now, he'll be returning to Milwaukee this summer. MGK is headlining Summerfest on July 1 as a part of a 42-date North American tour. Avril Lavigne and Iann Dior will open the Summerfest show. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at the Summerfest box office (200 N. Harbor Drive) and ticketmaster.com. Prices have not been announced but will include Summerfest general admission July 1.

Going to Thursday's Bucks game? The first 10,000 fans who arrive at Fiserv Forum will receive a replica ring from the Bucks championship season. The Bucks recommend that people arrive early for the best chance to get one.

Milwaukee Symphony's 2022-'23 season will feature a number of works that reflect on humanity's relationship with the natural world and the environment. A second theme will be an increase in singing onstage. Here's more on the upcoming season and a list of its concerts, which are held at the Bradley Symphony Center.

Amy Schumer hasn't performed in Milwaukee since 2015. That'll change this year. She's going on an extensive tour that will be stopping at the Riverside Theater on Nov. 11. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Presales run from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. Friday on Ticketmaster; use the access code "AMY."

Don’t go hangry

The Mothership in Bay View is launching a genre-bending food truck called Gavilán. It'll serve everything from pizza rolls dipped in garlic butter and served with marinara to chicharrones de harina. The truck will be parked outside the bar possibly as soon as sometime in April.

Milwaukee represent! Dane Baldwin of the Diplomat, Karen Bell of Bavette La Boucherie and Gregory León of Amilinda have made it to the final round of the James Beard Awards, in the best chef Midwest category. The winner will be announced June 13 in Chicago.

Here are the talkers

Brew City and Music City are the last two in the running to host the 2024 Republican National Convention. Officials from both cities made pitches Tuesday to the RNC's site selection panel at RNC headquarters. And in true Wisconsin fashion, the Milwaukee group rolled out Bloody Marys during its presentation. A final decision is expected by August.

Milwaukee's RiverWalk has been nominated for best riverwalk by USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. People can vote for their favorite riverwalk (cough cough, Milwaukee's) once per day until 11 a.m. CT April 11. The top 10 riverwalks will be announced on April 22.
