ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHT:Tigers walk off with 3-2 win over Chicago White Sox in 10 innings
Game notes: Rodriguez faces the White Sox for the first time since his Tigers debut April 8, when he gave up three runs over four innings (though the Tigers won it in walk-off fashion). Rodriguez has been up and down of late, giving up five home runs over his first two starts of September, then going five innings Monday vs. the mighty Houston Astros without a dinger. (The Astros still scored five runs, thanks to 10 hits.)
Cueto has been good, and at times great, this season despite a below-average strikeout rate of 5.7 strikeouts per nine innings). He has seven starts of seven innings or longer but was shelled last time out: seven runs allowed on eight hits and a walk vs. the Oakland Athletics. That effort alone, his shortest outing of the season, knocked his ERA from 2.87 to 3.09.
The series ends with a 12:10 p.m. first pitch Sunday before the Tigers head to Baltimore for a three-game set. The Sox, out of the American League wild-card hunt but still chasing the first back-to-back AL Central titles in franchise history, start a series Tuesday with the Cleveland Guardians, the first-place team in the division.
