MLB Draft 2023: Which area baseball players were selected during final rounds Tuesday?

More players with local and regional ties to Kansas City were selected in Rounds 11-20 of the 2023 MLB Draft on Tuesday after eight were taken in Rounds 3-10 on Monday.

Missouri Tigers pitchers Austin Troesser (Mets) and Zach Franklin (White Sox) were selected on Day 2, as were Kansas State infielder Nick Goodwin (Blue Jays), Wichita State infielder Brock Rodden (Mariners) and a trio of Missouri State standouts led by outfielder Spencer Nivens (Royals).

Here’s the local rundown from Rounds 11-20:

• The Tampa Bay Rays selected Missouri Tigers right-handed pitcher Chandler Murphy in the 12th round (No. 363 overall) on Tuesday. The Arizona transfer recorded a 5.47 ERA across 74 innings pitched with 68 hits and 49 runs allowed. He walked 32 and struck out 63 in his redshirt-junior season in Columbia.

• The Atlanta Braves picked Kansas State infielder Brady Day in the 12th round (No. 369 overall). An All-Big 12 honorable mention and Big 12 All-Tournament Team selection, Day hit .356 with 69 hits in 2023 — leading the Wildcats in both categories. The redshirt sophomore can play multiple positions in the infield, spending time at both second and third base throughout last season.

• Missouri infielder Luke Mann was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 14th round (No. 406 overall). He started 50 games, primarily at third base, for the Tigers last season, batting .270 with 17 home runs — the most by a Tiger since 2004.

• The Chicago White Sox selected Cowley County (Kan.) Community College right-handed pitcher Carlton Perkins in the 15th round (No. 449 overall). A Lee’s Summit North graduate, Perkins pitched 39 2/3 innings this past season, mainly working out of the bullpen — he made three starts over 21 appearances. Perkins averaged 11.34 strikeouts per nine innings and is currently committed to Grambling State University.

• The Royals selected Fort Scott Community College shortstop Blake Wilson in the 20th round (No. 589 overall). Wilson played all 61 games during his sophomore season at Fort Scott, batting .352 with 70 hits and 55 RBIs. The Kansas State commit was named an all-conference honorable mention.

• St. Thomas Aquinas outfielder Ashton Larson was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 20th round (No. 597 overall). The 6-foot-1, 193-pound LSU commit and 2023 U.S. National Team member was ranked the No. 1 outfielder and player in Kansas by Perfect Game. He was also ranked the No. 13 outfielder and No. 78 overall player nationally.
