MLB mock draft: Druw Jones popular pick for Arizona Diamondbacks in 2022 MLB draft

The 2022 MLB draft is scheduled to begin on July 17 and the Arizona Diamondbacks hold the No. 2 pick in the first round.

Who will they take with that pick?

Georgia high school outfielder Druw Jones is a very trendy pick for Arizona with that selection in recent MLB mock drafts for the 2022 MLB draft.

Take a look at what MLB draft projections are predicting for the Diamondbacks in the 2022 MLB amateur draft.

Odds Checker: Diamondbacks take Druw Jones, OF, Wesleyan HS, Georgia

Jason Radowitz writes: "Jones is likely the best player in the MLB Draft, He's the son of Andruw Jones and will just take a bit longer in the minors to develop."

MLB.com: Diamondbacks go with Druw Jones, OF, Wesleyan HS, Georgia

Jim Callis writes: "Jones to the D-backs feels like the biggest lock among the early picks. If the Orioles foil that plan, Arizona would look at Holliday, Johnson, Lee and Georgia Tech catcher Kevin Parada."

CBS Sports: Diamondbacks pick Druw Jones, OF, Wesleyan HS, Georgia

Mike Axisa writes: "The Diamondbacks are all about upside in the first round and Jones is now the consensus No. 1 prospect in the draft class. Arizona will jump on Jones if the Orioles pass. If the O's take Jones, Arizona will likely pivot to Elijah Green or high school second baseman Termarr Johnson, either of whom would satisfy their desire for significant upside. There is very little chance Jones is still on the board after this pick."

Through the fence baseball: Diamondbacks draft Druw Jones, OF, Wesleyan HS, Georgia

Michael Dault writes: "It’s hard not to fall in love with what Druw Jones brings to the game, let alone any team willing to draft him. His name is rising through the ranks at the moment. His athletic ability is among the best in this year’s crop. He’s 6’3″ and has the skills and instincts to stay in centerfield full-time. Much like a few other prospects on this list, he has plus-plus speed and amazes in the field and at the plate. The exit velocity off his bat is eye-popping for his age. Much like Green, he has five-tool potential."

Just Baseball: Diamondbacks end up with Druw Jones, OF, Wesleyan HS, Georgia

Ryan Miller writes: "In the past five years, Arizona has selected a prep bat three times. Two of those are Corbin Carroll and Jordan Lawler, whose reviews have been stellar to this point. Though it will cost them close to slot, the Diamondbacks scoop up arguably the best player in the draft."

MLB mock drafts that don't have Arizona Diamondbacks picking Druw Jones

Not everyone is predicting that the Diamondbacks will land Jones, however.

Here are a couple other possible picks for the team at No. 2, if the Baltimore Orioles take Jones with the No. 1 in the draft on July 17, or if Arizona decides to possibly go in a different direction.

Bleacher Report: Diamondbacks select Termarr Johnson, 2B, Mays HS, Georgia

Joel Reuter writes: "Jones won't get past the No. 2 pick if the Orioles decide to go in a different direction, but this scenario gives the D-backs a handful of prep standouts to choose from. Despite his limited defensive profile, Johnson is the best pure hitter in the 2022 class with a 70-grade hit tool and the potential for plus power."

The site has Druw Jones going to the Baltimore Orioles with the No. 1 overall pick.

Prime Time Sports Talk: Diamondbacks grab Termarr Johnson, 2B, Mays HS, Georgia

John Lepore writes: "While Lee has an advanced batting profile, Johnson may have the highest ceiling at the plate. The kid just rakes, and with the Diamondbacks already looking at two future stars in the outfield, they will go with an infield bat to pair with last year’s first-round pick, Jordan Lawlar."

Phlsportsnation.com: Diamondbacks land Elijah Green, OF, IMG Academy, Florida

Conor Doherty writes: "Green, whose dad was also a pro athlete, becomes the best player available with Jones gone. Green’s tools and skillset are very similar to Jones’ with the only concern being his pitch selection and how he could handle an uptick in velocity. Green swings and misses more than many would like, but when he connects, the ball explodes off his bat. If he can speed his bat up and recognize pitches a bit better, he has a good shot of being a very good center fielder for a long time. Green is currently committed to Miami University (FL), but he, like Jones, is expected to turn pro."

Baseball Prospect Journal: Diamondbacks get Elijah Green, OF, IMG Academy, Georgia

Dan Zielinski III writes: "Green is an elite prep prospect who has an exciting toolset. There aren’t many holes in Green’s game. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound outfielder has elite speed and exceptional arm strength. He is a refined prep talent who might be the best draft-eligible prep player in the last five years."
