MLB Power Rankings 2021: Standings at the quarter mark originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Ah, the difference a year makes.
At this point in the 2020 season, MLB was two-thirds through the shortened campaign, in the midst of a September stretch run.
This year, we're only a fourth of the way through the 162-game slate, with plenty of entertaining baseball ahead. Each division's first- and second-place clubs are separated by 2 1/2 games or less.
In the NL West, the Dodgers bounced back from a brutal stretch last week to win their first series in nearly a month. The Giants and Padres are right there with them atop the standings.
In the AL East, the first-place Red Sox and fourth-place Rays are separated by just two games, with the Yankees and Blue Jays, each doing well this month, sandwiched between.
Those two divisions provide just a snapshot of the tight races developing. Of course, it's early, so there's plenty of time for things to change.
In the meantime, let's bask in all the parity this season has provided so far.
Here's how all 30 teams stack up at the quarter mark.
