Report: Giants expected to sign top prospect from Bahamas originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Giants' top prospect didn't come from the MLB draft or a trade. In 2018, the Giants opened their wallets for a great international signing class, headlined by Marco Luciano. That group also included Luis Matos and Jairo Pomares.

It looks like the Giants will pay up for another top prospect in the 2021-22 international signing period. The Giants are expected to sign shortstop Ryan Reckley from the Bahamas for more than $2 million, according to Baseball America's Ben Badler.

Reckley, 16, is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound switch-hitter. He's the top prospect out of the Bahamas, and ranked eighth on Baseball America's 2021-22 international big board.

"If everything clicks, he could be a switch-hitting shortstop who hits at the top of a lineup, with a quick stroke that's more efficient from the right side and geared for line drives with gap power," Badler wrote on Reckley.

Here's video of him hitting from the left side.

Reckley is thought to have solid speed and be an advanced defender at shortstop for his age. He's looking to be the next big prospect out of the Bahamas, following in the footsteps of Miami Marlins shortstop Jazz Chisholm.

The international signing period still is slated to open July 2, 2021. However, it could be moved back to Jan. 15, 2022, as that's what happened last year.

From the draft to trades to free agents or the international signing period, the Giants have their eyes on all avenues to bring a brighter future to San Francisco.
