Slate Notes:

  • Framber Valdez will be starting for the Houston Astros while Chris Sale takes the bump for Boston. Valdez has pitched very well against the Red Sox this season posting a 2-0 record while averaging 31.9 DK FP in two game-starts. Framber last pitched on October 8th against the White Sox. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits over 4.1 IP. Valdez has a tough matchup tonight against a very potent Red Sox offense.

  • Both teams in this series have home stadiums that exhibit advantages/disadvantages because of their respective left-field fences. Minute Maid Park’s left-field will come into play tonight, just as the Green Monster will come into play when the series moves to Boston. The Green Monster aids powerful right-handed batters. It can turn routine pop-ups (in other parks) into home runs (In Fenway Park). On the other hand, Houston’s left-field dimensions help hard-hit line drives barely make it over for a home run. Xander Bogaerts is a player who should benefit from this. I expect these stadium factors to be a major theme throughout this series.

Top Showdown Plays

Jose Altuve - Houston Astros (vs. Boston Red Sox - SP Chris Sale)

The Astros are favored by -145 with an 8.5 O/U on Pointsbet.com. José Altuve has hit the ball well over his last 10 games averaging 10.9 DK FP. His ceiling was displayed in his last start against the White Sox as he totaled 39 DK FP at a showdown salary of $9,600. If there was ever a time to invest in Altuve it would be now, as he is hitting the ball well and holds solid numbers against Sale. Altuve has seen Sale in 31 prior at-bats. Over these at-bats, Altuve has 10 hits with one double and three home runs. José Altuve is worth consideration for your MVP slot in tonight‘s MLB showdown contests (for cash or GPP). I would avoid investing in starting pitching from both sides and focus on the heart of these orders. Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman are my top two plays from this experienced Houston Astros offense.

Alex Bregman - Houston Astros (vs. Boston Red Sox - SP Chris Sale)

If you’re considering investing in Altuve tonight, your banking on this Astros team to produce against Boston’s Chris Sale. If that’s the case, investing in the batters who are in front and behind Altuve would be a logical second step to making your lineup. Bregman comes into this matchup having tagged Sale for two home runs of his own. Bregman has averaged 8.1 DK FP over his last 10 games. His production has been more consistent over his last three games with totals of 13, 8, and 12 but he has yet to reach his 20+ point ceiling so far this postseason. If Sale struggles, it will be against the front portion of this Astros lineup. Both Bregman and Altuve have home run potential tonight in Game 1 of the ALCS.
