The Colorado Rockies are my top stack tonight. Although controversial, there are stats that indicate massive potential from the Rockies. Kershaw has not pitched well in Coors field over his career and the Rockies tend to hit him well, batting .311 as a team with 9 home runs in 212 at-bats. Players who exhibit impressive stats against Kershaw include: Kevin Pillar, Garrett Hampson, Charlie Blackmon, and Nolan Arenado.
Trevor Bauer - Cincinnati Reds (vs. Chicago White Sox) DK $10,800 FD $11,300 Yahoo $49
Bauer has held the White Sox to a .188 team batting average over 208 at-bats. He has also struck out 63 White Sox batters over these at-bats, which is roughly a 30% strike-out rate. Only one White Sox player exhibits impressive BvP against Bauer, Yoan Moncada. The White Sox third baseman has a .421 batting average over 19 at-bats. He’s taken Bauer deep twice with five total RBIs. If you decide to fade Bauer, Moncada becomes an important hedge play. Other than Moncada, the White Sox as a whole simply cannot touch Bauer’s stuff. Nine possible starters for the White Sox are all batting below .245 and seven of those players are batting below .185. Players including Adam Engel, Nomar Mazara, Eloy Jimenez, Yosmani Grandel, Edwin Encarnancion, and Tim Anderson exhibit horrible stats against Bauer. These six players are batting a combined 8-65 with 20 strikeouts. Bauer has been pitching lights out as of late averaging 30.1 DK points over his last nine starts. Trevor Bauer is my top play of the day and will be present in 90% of my lineups.
Salvador Perez - Kansas City Royal (vs. Corbin Burnes) DK $4900 FD $3100 Yahoo $20
There is no player this position hotter than Pere at the moment. Over his last ten games, he’s batting .475 with four home runs. The Kansas City veteran catcher scored 38 DK points last night off of four hits with one home run. Perez has homered in three out of his last four. He faces Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes; Burnes has an impressive 1.98 ERA over his last ten starts. Burnes has been extremely impressive but has yet to face Kansas City. Considering that Burnes is a viable cash gameplay today, Perez will likely be overlooked. I would not recommend investing a Kansas City stack but as a one-off Perez could be a low rostered, high upside play tonight.
Other C Option: Christian Vaquez - Boston Red Sox (vs. J.A. Happ)
Daniel Murphy - Colorado Rockies (vs. Clayton Kershaw) DK $3000 FD $3000 Yahoo $7
I know this sounds crazy, but investing in a Colorado Rockies stack against Clayton Kershaw could be interesting tonight. Murphy doesn’t exhibit impressive stats against Kershaw, batting .250 in 20 at-bats against Clayton. With that said, the rest of the Rockies hit Kershaw quite well, they’re batting .311 as a team with 9 home runs against Kershaw in 212 at-bats; players including Kevin Pillar, Garrett Hampson, Charlie Blackmon, and Nolan Arenado exhibit impressive stats against Kershaw. So why Murphy? The Rockies first baseman could see a significant increase in RBI opportunity depending on where he is in the lineup. He’s been struggling as of late with a .120 batting average over his last 25 at-bats, but tonight if Colorado succeeds, The Rockies are underdogs at +235 with 12.0 O/U.
Whit Merrifield - Kansas City Royals (vs. Corbin Burnes) DK $5800 FD $3300 Yahoo $14
Whit Merrifield is another Royal who has been hitting well as of late. The 31 year old second baseman is batting .409 over his last 44 at-bats with 3 doubles and 2 homeruns. He’s consistently hitting for average and power. Although I said stacking Kansas City is not necessary, a two-man stack is an option. By investing in the Royals lead off man as well as their clean-up batter in Salvador Perez, you will be exposing yourself to the majority of Kansas City’s offense. The Royals are underdogs at +175, but the O/U is relatively high at 8.0
Other 2B Play: Keston Hura - Milwaukee Brewers (vs. Kris Bubick)
Nolan Arenado - Colorado Rockies (vs. Clayton Kershaw) DK $5800 FD $3900 Yahoo $16
Nolan Arenado has a .311 batting average in 61 at-bats against Kershaw. Over these 61 at-bats he has hit four homeruns. Considering tonight’s game is in Coors field, I’m calling a Nolan Arenado home run tonight! Kershaw’s ERA in the month of September has risen to 3.12 compared to a 1.80 ERA in the month of August. In 2019, Kershaw allowed a 5.14 ERA in Coors field over one start allowing seven hits and four earned runs over 7.0 innings. Stacking the Rockies contrarian play with massive upside at low rostered percentages.
Trevor Story - Colorado Rockies (vs. Clayton Kershaw) DK $5500 FD $4400 Yahoo $21
Trevor Story has a .294 batting average in 17 at-bats against Kershaw. If stacking the Rockies, Story is a crucial element. The Colorado shortstop has .359 batting average with four doubles, one triple, and two home runs over his last 39 at-bats. The O/U is shockingly high at 12.0 considering Kershaw is on the mound. Chi Chi Gonzalez should be in for a rough night as well, but give me the Rockies tonight in an upset.
Charlie Blackmon - Colorado Rockies (vs. Clayton Kershaw) DK $5500 FD $4000 Yahoo $11
Charlie Blackmon is your final piece to a Colorado Rockies stack. The 34 year old outfielder is batting .300 with four home runs and 60 at-bats against Kershaw. Over his last ten, Blackmon has been struggling a bit with a .212 batting average with just one home run. However, this is the perfect game to see Blackmon get back on track against a pitcher he’s succeeded against in the past. The Rockies salaries remain high across the industry, providing me confidence in this contrarian play. Coors field allows 1.69 home runs per game ranked 10th highest in the MLB. Also, Coors is leading the league in allowed runs per game for an MLB stadium. Invest in Colorado for GPP tournaments only.
Garrett Hampson - Colorado Rockies (vs. Clayton Kershaw) DK $3300 FD $3000 Yahoo $10
Garett Hampson has seen Kershaw nine times over his career. The Rockies second baseman has three hits with one home run against Kershaw with two stolen bases. Hampson has a .210 batting average over his last 62 at-bats. While he has been struggling, tonight’s game is an opportunity for him to get back on track. If starting, Hampson becomes a viable GPP play (especially considering his salary around the industry). I’m all in on the Colorado Rockies tonight for GPP lineups only.
