MLGW: Employee died after 'electrical contact'

A Memphis, Light, Gas and Water employee died Friday after he had an "electrical contact," MLGW said Saturday.

"Michael Stewart’s incident was the result of an electrical contact. We are still investigating," the utility said.

MLGW said Stewart, a 21-year veteran of the utility, was working as a troubleshooter.

He died Friday in an incident near Lamar Avenue and Tuggle Road. The Memphis Police Department said that officers responded to a man down at the location on Friday.

The police department said Friday that a man, later identified as Stewart, had fallen while working.
