'MLK Day: A Day of Service' program in Petersburg includes flu/COVID-19 vaccines

PETERSBURG — Looking for a Martin Luther King Jr. day event to attend? "MLK Day: A Day of Service" will be held on Monday, January 16 at Tabernacle Baptist Church.

The Community Transformers Foundation [CTF] partnered with Tabernacle Baptist Church to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A concert series performed by gospel artists Rev. Cora Harvey Armstrong, Wendal Givens and Olive Branch Baptist Church PPE begins at 9:30 a.m.

CTF's annual program with Tabernacle Baptist Church Senior Pastor Dr. Robert A. Diggs Sr. and guest speaker Bishop Lanier Twyman of St. Stephens Baptist Church begins at 10 a.m.

"In accordance with Dr. King’s initiatives to restore the community and meet the needs of our fellow brethren, 'MLK Day: A Day of Service' will include lunch and a healthcare service component sponsored by Aetna Better Health of Virginia," Nicole Hall, CTF Interim Executive Director said.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day event

After the "MLK Day: A Day of Service" program, healthcare services will include:

  • Hands-Only CPR

  • Heimlich Maneuver

  • AED [automated external defibrillator] instruction

  • Flu/COVID-19 Vaccines

CTF, a private independent foundation established to advance health and social equity, serves communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Hopewell-based CTF team seeks to address the social determinants of health and promote wellness and equality in communities that are historically underserved and underrepresented.

“We are happy to have the continuous support of Aetna Better Health of Virginia as we continue our efforts to feed families and meet the community health needs of those who are disenfranchised and marginalized by society," Hall said. "It is heartwarming to know that our partners are dedicated to empowering and uplifting communities that are often forgotten."
