GREENVILLE — As a blanket of snow, ice and sleet has covered the Upstate of South Carolina, high school athletics events have been postponed in Greenville County.
On Sunday afternoon, the annual MLK Day Showcase at Bob Jones University was postponed due to weather. A release announcing the postponement didn't specify when the event would be rescheduled, "Further information about rescheduling the event will be made available as soon as it is confirmed."
Originally, the event was going to showcase the three games, including six teams: First was the girls varsity basketball teams from Greenville and Travelers Rest to open the three-game showcase. Then the Mauldin and Devildogs boys teams were set to faceoff.

The evening was going to be closed out by the Greenville and Hillcrest boys basketball teams.
"Due to weather, the MLK showcase at Bob Jones University has been postponed," an update on the Bob Jones Athletics website reads. The announcement comes soon after a severe winter storm has blanked Greenville County with snow, ice and sleet.
There were 5.5 inches of snow reported in the Paris Mountain and Sans Souci areas of Greenville. Dozens of flights out of Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport were canceled Sunday afternoon, too, due to heavy snowfall.
The news of the postponement also comes just as Greenville County Schools announced that all extracurricular activities, athletic events and practices were canceled.
