MN Highway 29 closure near Glenwood set to start June 22

Jun. 17—GLENWOOD — Starting Wednesday, June 22, Minnesota Highway 29, on both sides of the Minnesota Highway 55 intersection near Glenwood, will be closed to traffic. The closure is necessary as the Minnesota Department of Transportation and its contractors continue work on the

overpass bridge on Highway 29

.

A detour will be in place from June 22 to the end of October. The detour will use Pope County Road 28, Highway 55 and Highway 28. Traffic will be switched to the new alignment of Highway 55 and drivers should expect minor delays as this happens.

This is the second year of the overpass project. In 2022, crews will construct the overpass and a roundabout on Highway 29 at 160th Street. Last year, the new Highway 55 alignment, a roundabout at Highway 55 and 160th Street and the reconstruction of 160th Street were completed.

The total project will eliminate an "at grade" crossing with the CP Railway System, improve mobility and traffic flow, provide better safety for both vehicle and railroad traffic and reduce emergency response times. The estimate cost of the project is $12 million.
