Mo Farah says he was victim of child trafficking

STORY: “Most people know me as Mo Farah but it's not my name, it's not the reality.”

Mo Farah says he was

a victim of child trafficking

The Olympic star told the BBC

he was brought to the UK

from Djibouti at the age of nine

and forced to work

as a domestic servant

“The real story is, I was born in Somaliland, north of Somalia as Hussein Abdi Kahin. Despite what I've said in the past, my parents never lived in the UK. When I was four, my dad was killed in a civil war - you know, as a family we were torn apart. I was separated from my mother and I was brought into the UK illegally, under the name of another child called Mohammed Farah.”

He wasn't allowed to

contact his family

or attend school until he was 12

"Often I would just lock myself in the bathroom and cry and nobody is there to help so after a while, I just learned not to have that emotion."

A teacher contacted social services

and helped him find a foster family

He was able to reconnect

with his mom years later
