Mobile coronavirus vaccine clinics coming to Portsmouth and Newport News

For the third week in a row, mobile vaccine units are moving through Hampton Roads.

This time, they’re headed to Portsmouth and Newport News.

The units — 61-foot RVs — offer free shots of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which requires only one dose. They’re designed to reach unvaccinated Virginians “at times and places that are closer and more convenient,” primarily in rural and underserved areas where vaccine access can be challenging, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

The effort started in late May in western Tidewater and continued this week in Portsmouth and Chesapeake.

Here are the locations and times for the upcoming clinics, which do not require appointments:

Portsmouth

  • June 7, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Grove Baptist Church, 5910 W. Norfolk Road

  • June 7, 3-5 p.m., Churchland Library, 4934 High St W.

  • June 8, 9 a.m.-noon, Cradock Rec Center, Allen Road

  • June 8, 1-4 p.m., Port Norfolk Supermarket, 301 Mt Vernon Ave.

  • June 9, 9 a.m.-noon, Portsmouth Visitor’s Center, 6 Crawford Pkwy.

Newport News

  • June 10, 4-8 p.m., Warwick Mobile Home Community, 1 Commercial Place
