Mobile County Health Department providing rabies clinics for pets

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile County Health Department is providing low-cost rabies shots for dogs, cats and ferrets in March.

The shots will be good for one year, according to a release from the department.

The rabies clinics will be drive-through, and the rabies vaccine per pet will cost $12. The Mobile County Health Department will accept cash.

List of upcoming Rabies Clinics in Mobile County:

  • March 2, 10 a.m. to noon, Little Flower Catholic School at 2103 Government Street

  • March 9, 9 a.m. to noon, Prichard Municipal Stadium parking lot at 2402 West Rebel Road, hosted by Prichard Animal Shelter

  • March 9, 1 to 3 p.m., Pet Supplies Plus at 803 Hillcrest Road

  • March 23, 10 a.m. to noon, Pet Fest at Medal of Honor Park at 1711 Hillcrest Road

  • March 23, 1 to 3 p.m., B&B Pet Stop at 5035 Cottage Hill Road

  • March 30, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Kuddles-N-Kisses Connection at 11120 Meadow Lark in Grand Bay

The MCHD Rabies Officer provides low-cost vaccines monthly for residents. In February, the MCHD Rabies Officer provided 212 vaccinations: 171 for dogs and 41 for cats.

Rabies is a virus that attacks the central nervous system. It is transmitted from infected mammals to humans and is fatal once symptoms appear.

Rabies symptoms include unusual behavior, irritability, headache, fever, inability to eat or drink, balance problems, circling, seizures, coma and death. All warm-blooded mammals, including humans, are susceptible.

The MCHD Rabies Officer vaccinated 2,004 pets in 2023: 1,600 dogs and 404 cats.
