WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Wabash Township firefighters arrived on scene of a mobile home fire about 8:05 a.m. Sunday to find the trailer on the western end of Candlelight Plaza enveloped in flames, according to a fire department social media post.

The resident of the trailer made it out safely, but he was burned trying to get his belongings out of the trailer, according to the post, which was confirmed by Fire Chief Ed Ward. The resident refused to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

Because of the rural setting, Otterbein firefighters provided an additional tanker to ferry water to the scene, according to the post. Wabash Township firefighters also received assistance from West Lafayette firefighters, the sheriff's office and dispatch, the county's ambulance service and the American Red Cross.

Firefighters prevented the fire from damaging nearby homes, although they could not save the home where the fire started, Ward's post states.

Faulty electrical is believed to have caused the fire, according to the social media post.
