Mobile officials adjust Mardi Gras parking rates, hours

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The City of Mobile has adjusted the hours and rates for the additional Mardi Gras parking lots announced last week to better accommodate attendees.

Additional parking will be available at the GulfQuest Maritime Museum as well as in designated areas underneath Interstate 10 beginning on Friday. These parking areas will be open to the public two hours before the first parade of each day and will be staffed until 10 p.m. each night.

These locations will remain open after 10 p.m. to accommodate those attending Mardi Gras balls and other functions downtown.

All-day parking will be $20 in any of these areas.

Drivers will need to use the Premium Parking app, a debit card or a credit card at the parking lot kiosk since cash is not accepted at these lots. To encourage carpooling, the city of Mobile is offering a one-time promo code for a $10 discount for vehicles with three or more passengers.

The parking at the lot under I-10 at the intersection of Water Street and Monroe Street will not be managed or monitored for Mardi Gras parking, so employees who work in downtown Mobile will not be negatively affected. Parking here will be free and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

City officials are in the process of activating more parking lots in areas around Water Street. Those locations will be announced after preparations are finalized early next week, according to a release.
