Model calls and Sunday football: here is what's happening in Shreveport this weekend

As we anxiously anticipate the return of the Fall weather, there's plenty to keep us distracted in Shreveport like Prize Fest model calls, the return of Sunday football at Great Raft and celebrating Pride in the Park.

Friday, September 9

  • Backyard Books at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery - Bring the kids out to the Norton to participate in the reading of "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds about a caring teacher who dates a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to "make her mark." In addition to the reading there will be activities related to the book like dot art and a "Spot the Dot" scavenger hunt that are appropriate for ages Pre-K - 3rd grade, but all ages are welcome. This event is free, but there is limited space so participants will need to reserve tickets at the Facebook event page. Backyard Books begins at 10 a.m. at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery located at 4747 Creswell Ave. in Shreveport.

Saturday, September 10

  • Requiem: Minicine¿ A retrospective. at Minicine¿ - Come out to say goodbye to this downtown Shreveport staple for independent films, art and music. Reminisce on 27 years of Minicine¿ with music from John Calvin, Bossier Bangs and reunion shows from Power Pellut, Blood Punch and Spreekiller with a DJ set from Nate Treme and artwork from local artists. The event begins at 7 p.m. at Minicine¿ located at 846 Texas Ave. in Shreveport.

  • Pride in the Park at Betty Virginia Park - PACE will be hosting this free family-friendly event to celebrate the LGBTQ community. There will be food trucks on site, community vendors and booths, entertainment and more. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and leashed pets for a day of fun. Pride in the Park will begin at 11 a.m. at Betty Virginia Park located at 3901 Fairfield Ave. in Shreveport.

Sunday, September 11

  • Fashion Prize Model Call at The Agora Borealis - The 2022 Fashion Prize designers are looking for models to strut their looks on the runway Sunday, October 16 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Models will be required to make both the event and the rehearsal on Saturday, October 15 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Contact Katy Larsen at katy@prize.foundation for questions. The Agora Borealis is located at 421 Lake St. in Shreveport and the model call begins at 2 p.m.

  • Saints vs. Falcons Watch Party at Great Raft Brewing - L.E. & Chalk and Great Raft invite you to celebrate the return of football with a rivalry game between the Saints and Falcons. L.E. & Chalk will be celebrating their five year anniversary by supplying a giant pot of grits and grillades as free tailgate food while supplies last. This free event will be from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Great Raft Brewing located at 1251 Dalzell St. in Shreveport.
