Model Denise Bidot on the Perfect Shoe for Wide Calves & Body Positivity

Model Denise Bidot had a lot to say about being comfortable in your own skin and being fearless with your fashion choices at Rolling Stones (FN’s sister publication) “Women Shaping the Future” brunch, in honor of the magazine’s March issue.

“There are so many layers to what makes you feel empowered. Obviously, self-love. If you can’t get into that, you can’t get into moving to care about others and changing the world,” said the 32-year-old “Curvy Girls” star. Still, there’s one style that always works for a curvier figure and wider calves: “Most of my shoes are booties,” she said.

“I love a good boot, I’m such a New York girl. I can wear a boot all year round,” explained Bidot. “I try on everything and I don’t get scared,” explained Bidot. “Honestly, it’s a trial and error scenario. It’s a matter of the material, the quality . . . . I just try on everything. I don’t get scared. I become fearless in every shopping scenario.”

Bidot joined many more women leaders in fashion, media and politics for the event, which featured Planned Parenthood president Leana Wen, U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-CT., and broadcast journalist Tamron Hall as speakers.

Hall chose a blue-and-white floral A-line silhouette and strappy lace-up heels for the occasion hosted at the Altman Building in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.

Alongside Hall at the was singer Colbie Caillat, who went with a boho-chic look. Her outfit consisted of a black top and purple pleated skirt under a brown leather trench. Her shoes were also a brown leather look of a dark boot that matched her floppy hat.
