Models In Rick Owens’ AW16 Show Walked The Catwalk With Hairballs On Their Heads

Never one to play it safe, fashion designer Rick Owens was always going to have something of a bonkers AW16 show.

After all, this is the man who put his models in harnesses (effectively 69-ing) each other on the catwalk last season and who put penises on show for his AW15 collection.

His presentations often seem to be less about the clothes and more about the spectacle - and last night’s show in Paris was no different. Although it was noticeably more tame than his previous presentations.

While there was no nudity or weird harnesses involved, the models’ faces were completely obscured - Cousin It style - by what looked like giant hairballs.

While the finished effect looked completely bonkers, there was actually a meaning to the dragged through a bush backwards vibe.

According to The Cut, Owens’ hairstylist Duffy said the hairballs were meant to be an extension of the furry and long clothes that were part of this season. The high-impact hairballs were carefully kept in place by putting balloons inside them and popping them with hairpins right before a model needed it.

Not every model had to make it down the catwalk in one piece with a giant fluffball on their head - some had to deal with Duffy’s alternative look, which she described as “long, greasy hair”. Nice.
