Modern pop, hip-hop musical about Jesus coming to a North Texas tent auditorium in May

A contemporary pop and hip-hop Broadway musical take on the life of Jesus is coming to North Texas in May.

“His Story: The Musical” is making its world premiere in The Colony on May 5. The musical’s engagement at The Colony will last through the summer and wrap-up in September. Tickets for all shows are available now.

The musical is described as: “In this new contemporary pop musical based on the life of Jesus, a common-man-from-an-obscure-family arrives in the big city and defies expectations. He speaks great wisdom, but chooses friends from the dregs of society and hangs out in the wrong part of town. Mocked by the establishment, he is adored by the people.”

“His Story” is written by Anna Miriam Brown, 21, who was inspired to write the musical after a mission trip to Africa. During the trip, Brown was introduced to the musical “Hamilton” and thought if someone could do a contemporary take on American history, why couldn’t there be one on the Bible.

The Colony’s entertainment center, the Grandscape, is hosting the musical for its entire run at The Broadway Tent. The 75,000 square foot state-of-the-art tent holds 1,300 seats and will be positioned in front of the Grandscape Ferris wheel at 5752 Grandscape Blvd.

The “His Story” production team includes Jeff Calhoun, Bruce Lazarus, Willie and Korie Robertson, Brad Reeves, Bill Noble, Jill Wilkinson, Cooper Collins, Mike Collins, Troy Duhon and Bob Katz.

The first show is set for May 5 and final performance will be Sept. 10.
