Indie rockers' delight: An upcoming Summerfest date will feature two acts who have truly influenced the sound over the past 30 years.

Modest Mouse will headline an Aug. 13 date on Ninth Street, outside The Blue Note, with Cat Power as more-than-capable support.

Hitting the atmosphere in the mid-1990s, Washington State's Modest Mouse foregrounds the caustic, charming writing of frontman Isaac Brock. Mainstream audiences awakened to the band with the emergence of 2004's single "Float On"; but longtime fans still cherish older records such as 1997's "The Lonesome Crowded West" and "The Moon & Antarctica" from 2000.

The band's most recent effort, "The Golden Casket," released in 2021. Drummer Jeremiah Green, the band's last remaining founding member alongside Brock, died on Dec. 31 after a bout with cancer.

Performing as Cat Power, singer-songwriter Chan Marshall delivers music that is both devastating and spare. Marshall's first record, "Dear Sir," landed in 1995. Last year, she offered a record of "Covers" by the likes of Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, Iggy Pop and Nick Cave.

Also last year, Columbia author Donna Kozloskie contributed to the Cat Power legend, penning a book on 1998's seminal album "Moon Pix" for the long-running 33 1/3 series of music texts.

Other upcoming Summerfest dates include Houndmouth at Rose Park April 6; Whiskey Myers on Ninth Street May 12; Bright Eyes at Rose Park May 13; and The Head and the Heart and Father John Misty Aug. 20 outside The Blue Note.

Tickets for Modest Mouse and Cat Power are $42.50 and go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time. Visit https://thebluenote.com/events/ for more information.
