Jeremiah Green, a drummer and founding member of Pacific Northwest indie rock band Modest Mouse, has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, according to a bandmate.

Frontman and guitarist Isaac Brock posted about Green’s illness on the band’s Instagram early Wednesday morning.

“Hi. Some of you may have already heard, but I figured it would be good to hear the news directly from our camp. Jeremiah was diagnosed with cancer a short while ago, and he’s currently in treatment,” Brock captioned a photo of Green.

“It seems to be going smoothly and making a positive difference. Jeremiah, as am I, are believers in the power of positive energy, so if you would be so kind as to send “good vibes”( to quote Jeremiah) in the direction of Jeremiah and his family, that’d be great.”

The type of cancer Green was diagnosed with was not made public.

Green, along with Brock and bassist Eric Judy, founded Modest Mouse in the 1990s. After attaining critical acclaim, the band crossed over to mainstream success with their fourth studio album in 2004, “Good News for People Who Love Bad News.”

The album earned the band a Grammy nomination for best alternative music album, as well as a nod for best rock song for the album’s first single, “Float On.” The band has released eight albums and expanded to six members.

“The Golden Casket,” the band’s latest, was released in June on Epic records.

The band wrapped a tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of their album “The Lonesome Crowded West” last week and are scheduled to perform in Mexico City in March.
