Modesto’s Congregation Beth Shalom celebrates Hanukkah with public menorah lightings

Congregation Beth Shalom invites the public to celebrate Hanukkah with a series of menorah lightings across the Modesto region.

The lightings will take place on the eight nights of Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights. Two will be streamed live on Zoom.

Hanukkah begins this year the evening of Nov. 28 and ends Dec. 6.

There will be multiple lightings on some of the evenings, as well as parties and music two of the nights at Congregation Beth Shalom, 1705 Sherwood Ave. in Modesto, according to a press release from Rabbi Shalom Bochner.

Here’s a look at the planned events. All are free except the latke dinner Dec. 3, which is $12.

  • Sunday, Nov. 28: Samaritan Village, 7700 Fox Road, Hughson, 5 p.m. (also live-streamed on Zoom)

  • Monday, Nov. 29: Modesto Junior College, 435 College Ave., outside of the Student Center, 5:15 p.m.

  • Monday, Nov. 29: Stanislaus State, outside of the Student Union Hall, 1 University Circle, Turlock, 7 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Nov. 30: Memorial Medical Center, 1700 Coffee Road, Modesto, 5 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Nov. 30: Gene Bianchi Center, 110 Second Ave., Oakdale, 7 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 1: Doctors Medical Center, 1441 Florida Ave., Modesto, 5 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 1: Vintage Faire Mall, 3401 Dale Road, Modesto, 6 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 1: Library Park, 320 W. Center St., Manteca, 7 p.m.

  • Thursday, Dec. 2: The Park at Modesto, 2832 Healthcare Way, 5 p.m.

  • Thursday, Dec. 2: O’Briens Market, 4120 Dale Road, Modesto, 6 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 3: McHenry Village, 1700 McHenry Ave., Modesto, 4:15 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 3: Congregation Beth Shalom, 1705 Sherwood Ave., Modesto, with 5 p.m. Hanukkah party; 6 p.m. Shabbat services; 7 p.m. latke dinner.

  • Saturday, Dec. 4: Celebration of Lights parade with a Hanukkah float, downtown Modesto, 5:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, Dec. 4: Tenth Street Plaza, 1010 10th St., Modesto, 7:30 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 5: Congregation Beth Shalom, 1705 Sherwood Ave., Modesto, 4 p.m. with concert and party
