Modesto entertainment venue brings in two more hit-making bands with its next show

Classic pop band Air Supply is set to play a show with Little River Band at the Fruit Yard Amphitheater. Janis Joplin’s band Big Brother and Holding Company also comes to the Modesto region, while a Roy Orbison tribute will be staged at the State Theatre. They are just some of the entertainment planned Aug 19-25.
Air Supply
Pop duo Air Supply brings its hits to the Fruit Yard Amphitheater in Modesto, along with fellow hit maker Little River Band. Air Supply is know for hits “Lost in Love,” “All Out of Love,” “Every Woman in the World,” “The One That You Love” and more. Little River Band scored with songs “Cool Change,” “Reminiscing,” “Help Is on Its Way,” “Lady” and others.

Joplin’s band
Catch Janis Joplin’s band Big Brother and the Holding Company at the West Side Theatre in Newman. The band was established as a four-man ensemble but sought a strong female singer and found one in Joplin, leading to numerous hit songs.

Music of Orbison
The State Theatre brings in the show “Roy Orbison Returns.” According to the Modesto theater’s website, country singer Wiley Ray performed “Oh Pretty Woman” at a karaoke bar in 2004. “When he finished, he was treated to stunned silence and then thunderous applause.” Today, his show is a fully scripted musical theater re-creation of Roy Orbison’s 1980s concert years, with costumes, lighting, staging and set lists. Highlights include “Only the Lonely,” “Pretty Woman,” “Crying” and more.
