Modesto’s Gallo Center to host theatrical concert re-creating life, music of late pop star

A new theatrical concert featuring the late George Michael’s life and music will play at the Gallo Center. Another nostalgic turn at the downtown Modesto venue brings Classic Albums Live to re-create Rolling Stones’ “Sticky Fingers.” They are two of the shows making up entertainment in the region Feb. 3-9.

Music of George Michael

“The Life and Music of George Michael” is a new theatrical concert that chronicles the journey Michael had with music and his fans. The show, coming to the Gallo Center, features the performances and sound of Michael with staging and lighting, telling his story through hits from Wham! and his solo career.

“Sticky Fingers”

Classic Albums Live: The Rolling Stones; Sticky Fingers will feature the iconic band’s music at the Gallo Center. The performance is a re-creation of “Sticky Fingers,” the classic Rolling Stones recording from the 1970s. Classic Albums Live has performed several shows at the center, highlighting The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater Revival and more.

Modesto Symphony Orchestra

Led by Music Director Nicholas Hersh, the program at the Gallo Center will include the Modesto Symphony Orchestra’s premiere of William L. Dawson’s Negro Folk Symphony, as well as Lili Boulanger’s “D’un Matin de Printemps (Of a Spring Morning).” The latter will include a video presentation created in collaboration with Visit Modesto. The video will feature photos and footage of almond blossoms, capturing springtime in Stanislaus County. The program will end with George Gershwin’s “An American in Paris.”

“Show Her The Money”

The Stanislaus County Commission for Women presents the documentary “Show Her the Money” at the State Theatre. The film emphasizes the role of finance in empowering women and achieving equality by following four founders as they face uphill battles to turn their ideas into reality. The SCCW will present a panel discussion featuring the film’s producers, stars and supporters before the film. A Q&A will follow the screening.
