Modesto show brings Johnny Cash, his music and stories in unique performance

The music of The Man in Black will be featured in a performance at the Gallo Center in Modesto that projects images from his TV show on a screen, with a band and singers on stage. Comedian Lewis Black also brings his farewell tour to the center. The events are just part of the entertainment set for the region Jan. 20-26.

Cash music

Johnny Cash — The Official Concert Experience” brings the songs and stories from the icon to the Gallo Center in Modesto. There will be video of Cash from episodes of television’s “The Johnny Cash Show” projected above the stage as a live band and singers accompany him in sync. This concert experience will showcase his performances from the TV show and revisit some of his memorable words and anecdotes.

Lewis Black

Lewis Black returns to the the Gallo Center after six years, bringing his final comedy tour before he retires. The two-time Grammy Award-winning comedian/actor/writer uses his trademark rants to expose the absurdities of life.

“A Doll’s House, Part 2”

Prospect Theater Project presents the play “A Doll’s House, Part 2.” In the final scene of Ibsen’s 1879 “A Doll’s House,” Noral Helmer makes the shocking decision to leave her husband and children and begin a life on her own. In “Part 2,” several years have passed and now Nora has returned.

“Titanic”

The Modesto Film Society presents the classic “Titanic” at the State Theatre. Patrons are urged to dress up in 1912 attire and take pictures boarding the iconic ship before the screening. The film follows 101-year-old Rose as she tells the story of her experience aboard the Titanic, 84 years later.

Escape room

The Carnegie Arts Center offers families a chance to solve puzzles and gather clues to find a missing piece of precious art. The mystery will be offered escape room-style to find the missing object before time runs out.
