Modesto’s Timothy Olyphant gets best actor nomination for ‘Justified: City Primeval’

Modesto’s Timothy Olyphant has been nominated for a Critics Choice Award for his role in “Justified: City Primeval.”

The Beyer High graduate gained a nod for best actor in a drama series for his reprisal as Raylan Givens in the FX Networks television series that ran earlier this year, according to the Critics Choice Association website.

Fellow nominees are Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong, both for “Succession” on HBO Max, Tom Hiddleston for “Loki” on Disney+, Pedro Pascal for “The Last of Us” on HBO Max and Ramón Rodríguez for “Will Trent” on ABC.

Olyphant’s co-star in “Primeval,” Aunjanue Ellis, also was nominated for best actress in a drama series.

The winners will be announced during the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, Jan. 14, on The CW network.

“Justified: City Primeval” was a follow to the original “Justified” series, which ran six seasons on FX, from 2010 to 2015.

There have been online rumors that Olyphant may return as Givens for another round of “Justified,” given the surprise ending to “Primeval” when original series character Boyd Crowder escapes from prison.

It’s been reported online that Olyphant and others affiliated with the show are open to returning to “Justified.” The decision is up to FX on its future.

This is not the first time the Modesto-bred actor has been nominated for his portrayal of Givens. Olyphant was up for an Emmy Award for best actor in 2011.

He also was nominated for Critics Choice Awards for his original role of Givens in 2011-2013 and 2015. He won a Critics Choice Award in 2016 as best guest actor in a comedy series for “The Grinder.”

According to IMDB.com, Olyphant has four wins and 39 nominations from a variety of organizations for his acting work.
