Mohican theater standout, radio voice Dennis Morgan gets 2022 Community Service Award

LOUDONVILLE ‒ One of the most giving people in the Mohican area, Dennis Morgan, is the winner of the 2022 Community Service Award from the Loudonville-Mohican Chamber of Commerce.

Morgan, owner of Axle Machines in rural Lakeville, was recognized at Thursday's annual banquet for his many acts of community service and generosity over the past 25-30 years in the Mohican area.

His services have touched community theater, the music programs in the Loudonville-Perrysville Schools, the youth soccer programs, and through broadcast and sports programs in the local schools.

Last year’s award recipient, Joe Eggerton, gave the presentation speech, noting “in virtually every production by the Mohican Community Theatre, Morgan has held a major role, and beyond this, has contributed to the scenery, sound, and instrumental support of programming, along with playing a major role in maintaining and improving the physical aspects of the Ohio Theatre."

Morgan is also heard and seen in the school scene by doing commentary for Redbird teams at the stadium and on WZLP radio. He also helped to establish the Loudonville Youth Soccer Program in the late 1990s.

“He has probably been the most dedicated member of it on an ongoing basis, coaching multiple teams each season, even after he and wife, Deauanna’s, own children graduated from the program," Eggerton said. "They also donated their time and personal funds to establish fields, purchase soccer goals, put up soccer nets, line fields, etc.

“On top of that, he was instrumental in establishing a girls soccer team at Loudonville High, coaching in the program for over 20 years and helping build the soccer field behind the McMullen Elementary School, including the installation of lights for the field.

And Morgan has supported the Loudonville-Perrysville Music Boosters "helping with concerts, sound systems, and scenery for different events,” Eggerton said. “Recently, he built and donated a new trailer for the Loudonville High School band, having personally outfitted it to hold instruments and other equipment. He is now working to develop an online giving program for the Music Boosters."

“Many persons nominated Morgan for this award, telling us, ‘We cannot think of any community member more deserving.’ Dennis epitomizes the concept of service!”

Family moment for the Morgans

Morgan and wife, Deauanna, were greeted after receiving the award not just by the 80 or so at the banquet, but by his children and grandchildren.

Also at the banquet, an annual event in Loudonville since 1957, Keys to the Village, a chamber tradition for the past 15 years, were presented to the Cleo Redd Fisher Museum of the Mohican Historical Society. The Society was formed in 1962, and the museum built a decade later.

Speakers during the banquet, which was held in the large meeting room at Landoll’s Mohican Castle, included Chamber Director Valerie Spreng, Tom White and Michelle Buckley of the Radiant Peacock and Alabaster Mouse, Morgan Milles of Momma Moo Design Co., and Jordan Lance of the Mohican Area Growth Foundation.
