All-Mojave River League basketball and soccer honors announced

The Mojave River League recently announced the Player of the Year awards for the basketball and soccer seasons.

Hesperia’s Queen Allah highlights the All-MRL girls basketball list as she was named the Player of the Year.

Allah led the Scorpions to the league title, going unbeaten in MRL action. Allah led the team with 19.5 points per game, and also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 4.7 steals a game.

Two of her teammates — Berlynn Miramontes and Dhymond Zambrana — were named to the All-MRL First Team, and Oak Hills and Burroughs both had three players receive nods.

On the boys side, Oak Hills’ Kenneth Brown earned the Player of the Year award after leading the team to a second-straight league title.

Brown’s teammates Ahmed Kaoud, Monsour Sanneh and Vieux Sanneh each earned a spot on the First Team, and Hesperia had two players receive a nod.

Serrano’s Anthony Potter received the boys soccer Offensive Player of the Year award, while Sultana’s Jesus Mendoza earned the defensive honor. Hesperia led the way with four players named to the First Team, while Oak Hills had three players receive a nod.

In girls soccer, Oak Hills’ Sydney Middaugh earned the Offensive Player of the Year award, and Apple Valley’s Kaydence Bonneau was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Apple Valley, Oak Hills and Serrano each had three games named to the First Team.
