Mojave Water Agency appoints new board member
Newly appointed Mojave Water Agency Board Member Jesse Ramirez will participate in his first meeting this month.
The water agency's board of directors appointed the Barstow native to represent Division 6 at a special board meeting earlier this month.
“I’m looking forward to tapping into my many years in the water industry to help the agency navigate challenges now, and in the future,” said Ramirez, who cited more stringent water quality standards and availability of water in general among the upcoming issues.
Ramirez replaces longtime board member Jeanette Hayhurst, who retired from the board earlier this year.
“Mr. Ramirez’s 44 years of experience in the water industry, combined with his longevity in the Barstow community, gives him valuable insight and perspective on the water needs in this region,” Board President Mike Page said.
A Barstow High School graduate, Ramirez began his career as a Water Distribution Operator and has been the Operations Superintendent for Golden State Water Company since 2005.
Ramirez holds his grade-5 water distribution operator certification as well as a grade-3 water treatment operator certification.
“Jesse brings with him an accomplished career in water utility operations and will undoubtedly provide the Agency with important perspectives as we tackle the coming water management challenges,” General Manager Adnan Anabtawi said.
Ramirez has served as a board member of the Barstow College Foundation since 2019, and on the Barstow Cemetery Committee since 2020.
He is the past president of the Barstow Kiwanis Club for the 2018-2019 year.
The Mojave Water Agency board meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month in the agency’s boardroom at 13846 Conference Center Drive in Apple Valley.
