Moldy Myrtle Beach hotel room story goes national, 7.5M TikTok views

The Myrtle Beach vacationers behind a viral TikTok video showing their oceanfront hotel room infested with mold are drawing national attention.

“I was traumatized by what I saw,” Lashanda Terry told Inside Edition on a segment posted to the show’s Facebook page on Friday.

Terry’s best friend Kelly Bruce spent more than $700 for accommodations at the Sea Mist Ocean Resort along 13th Avenue S. for a weekend getaway with another friend late last month.

After entering the moldy room, Bruce took a 47-second video of of their shocked response, which has since been viewed more than 7.5 million times.

“Our first best friends getaway ever went straight to hell,” she said in the caption. “This was supposed to be our upgrade from giving us the wrong room initially. I have never seen anything like this in my entire life.”

Bruce told Inside Edition it was the first time the friends were able to sneak away together for a vacation.

“We were looking forward to every bit of it,” she said.

In a since-deleted Facebook post, Sea Mist officials said the moldy room was not supposed to be in rotation for guest use, and was assigned erroneously by its management company.

“The unit was on maintenance block to be treated for mold, which is a regular issue at every resort in a humid climate,” the hotel responded.

The women were upgraded to a Jacuzzi suite that was free of mold.
