Mom, child in stroller hit by vehicle on Route 36 in Hazlet

HAZLET - A mother and her young child were injured Thursday when a vehicle struck the stroller the woman was pushing on Route 36 south, police said.

Both were taken by ambulance to Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel. There was no word on the conditions of the two, said Hazlet Deputy Police Chief Robert Mulligan.

Mulligan said the accident took place around noon between Laurel and Palmer avenues. No further details were released.

The crash prompted the shutdown of the southbound lanes of the highway at different points during the investigation. The road was fully reopened at 3:30 p.m.

Investigators were examining passenger-side fender damage to a Ford pickup truck. The baby carriage was missing a wheel.

Hazlet police, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the county's Serious Collision Analysis Response Team are investigating.
