Mom, child struck by vehicle, critically injured in front of Allegany County school

A mother and child crossing a road in front of the Bolivar-Richburg elementary school in Richburg were struck by a vehicle and critically injured Wednesday afternoon, district officials said.

Amity-based New York State Police reported investigating a personal injury accident shortly before 5 p.m. in the village of Richburg. Troopers have not released additional information.

A statement issued by Chuck Leichner, interim superintendent of the Bolivar-Richburg Central School District, said the parent and child "were struck by a vehicle as they crossed (state) Route 275 directly in front of the elementary school in Richburg."

"Emergency responders and the State Police arrived at the scene immediately," the district said, "and both mother and child were transported to the hospital."

Leichner confirmed Friday that the child who was injured is a student at Bolivar-Richburg.

An Allegany County emergency official said at least one patient was flown to a medical facility by LifeNet.

The district said both remain in critical condition.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
