Mom of five says Here. For Good. helps as prices rise

Dec. 20—HERNDON — As a single mother of five, Colleen, of Herndon, said the Salvation Army is sometimes all kids have for Christmas.

One of Colleen's children has been going through some health issues, which has made it difficult for her to work, she said.

Alongside that, the year has been especially difficult due to rising costs, according to Colleen.

"This year has been especially financially difficult with price increases on food, fuel and clothes," she said. "Everything has gone up except for paychecks."

Colleen said she is grateful there are programs like the Salvation Army's Here. For Good. fund to help families like hers.

"Even simple things like a shirt or small toy means the world to these children," she said. "Some kids don't get anything other than what they get from the Salvation Army."

The Here. For Good. Campaign is a continuation of the Needy Family Fund which has raised more than $3.45 million since 1987 during the holiday season to help the Valley's families.

This year's goal is $250,000. Today's total is $108,913.31.
