Mom-Shamers Blast Jessica Simpson For a Photo of Her 4-Month-Old In a "Car Seat"

Singer-turned-fashion-designer Jessica Simpson is once again the target of online mom-shaming. The 39-year-old mother of three came under fire after she posted a photo on Instagram earlier this week of her youngest daughter, Birdie, strapped into a stroller.

The photo, which shows her 4-month-old looking happy and bright-eyed, was posted with the caption, “this bird couldn’t be more adorable.” While it seems innocent enough, the post quickly drew the attention of critics who, mistaking the stroller for a car seat, lambasted Simpson for not buckling Birdie in safely.

“Straps on this car seat do not provide correct support,” one commenter wrote.

“That hard buckle should be on her sternum instead of her belly to be optimally effective and not cause more harm if a car accident would happen (god forbid!)” another said.

Thankfully, dozens of fans came to Simpson’s defense and pointed out to the misinformed critics that Birdie was, in fact, in a stroller and not a car seat, and therefore didn't require quite the same strap placement.

“People over here giving out car seat advice when it’s a DANG STROLLER 💀 this is how y’all look right now 🤡,” one person wrote.

Can someone grab those critics a towel to wipe the egg off their face? There’s something to be said for the age-old adage of “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” especially when you’re wrong.

Simpson reportedly turned off her Instagram comments following the initial backlash, but commenting has since been turned back on.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Simpson has faced harsh criticism of her parenting skills. Earlier this year, she was shamed for posting a picture where Birdie was shown sleeping on her stomach.

“Beautiful baby but as a pediatrician… back to sleep only… even if just for a photo shoot and people are watching. Lot of people look at your pics Jessica!”

And just last month, the famous mother was called out for letting her 7-year-old daughter Maxwell dye the ends of her hair purple in honor of the Disney movie Descendants.

While many commenters blasted Simpson, saying that 7-years-old is much too young to be dying their hair, others offered their appreciation for allowing her daughter to show off her creativity and style.

“Great job mom !! Allowing her to express herself and trying new things that arent permanent nor hurtful but allow her to embrace her style and set the tone for who she wants to be while not being scared to try new things and be herself - your winning mommy !!”
