Mom’s unannounced visit had daughter worried — then she saw her MD lottery ticket
An 80-year-old woman was “crying tears of joy” after realizing she had won big with a scratch-off ticket in Maryland, lottery officials said.
The Montgomery County resident had been running errands in Beltsville when she decided to buy some scratch-offs at Calverton Liquors, according to a May 22 news release by the Maryland Lottery.
The woman was shocked when a $10 Money Bag Multiplier scratch-off won her a $100,000 top prize.
“I was shaking and kept looking at the ticket,” the lucky woman told lottery officials. “I’ve hit small amounts in the past, but this blew my mind.”
Knowing she needed to confirm the potential win, the woman drove to her daughter’s house, the release said.
“I thought something was wrong, because she usually calls first,” the woman’s daughter told officials. “It took a minute for it to sink in, but I am so happy for her.”
The woman plans to put the money towards her grandchildren’s college expenses, make some home improvements and share some of the fortune with her daughter, according to the release.
Belstville is about 30 miles southwest of Baltimore.
