Moment of Silence Held During NWSL Game in North Carolina Amid Abuse Allegations

National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) teams paused gameplay on Wednesday, October 6, to show support for former players who made allegations of sexually abusive behavior by North Carolina Courage head coach Paul Riley.

This footage filmed by Nicholas Schnittker shows North Carolina Courage and Racing Louisville FC players taking a moment of silence at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, the home stadium where Riley had coached.

Riley was fired by North Carolina Courage in the wake of allegations of sexual coercion “spanning multiple teams and leagues since 2010”, The Athletic reported.

The NWSL has demanded “every coach, general manager, representative on the board of governors, and owner voluntarily submit to the Players Association’s independent investigation into abusive conduct.” Credit: Nicholas Schnittker via Storyful
