While appearing on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” Monday night, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff was asked about the transition process after the 2020 presidential election and whether the former second lady was helpful in the early days of him assuming the role of second spouse.

“Did Karen Pence help you at all when you started?” host Andy Cohen asked.

“She did, actually. She was great,” Emhoff said. “There’s only so few people you can talk to about being in these roles, and she was one of them. And she was — she was very helpful.”

“Good,” Cohen replied.

“Mommy!” Cohen then added.

The throw-in comment appears to be a reference to an intriguing bit of lore about former Vice President Mike Pence, that he would call his wife, Karen, “Mother.” Alyssa Farah, a former press secretary for Pence, disputes it. “This is a myth that drives me crazy,” she said in 2021.

The outburst was met with an unimpressed facial expression by Emhoff.
