Eau Gallie advanced to the Class 5A state semifinal game after defeating New Smyrna Beach, 8-7, in the Region 3-5A final game.

In the first inning, New Smyrna Beach struck first after a sacrifice fly and a single scored two quick runs. Mattox Meeks added a run when he hit a single to give the Barracudas a 3-0 lead.

Eau Gallie got on the board in the third inning after Josh Dexter brought in a run. With the score sitting at 3-1, Brandon Bragg hit a three-run homer to put the Commodores ahead.

The scoring did not end there for the Commodores. They went on to score four more runs in the third inning to take an 8-3 lead.

"Hitting was definitely one of our better things today," Bragg said. "We have to keep hitting no matter who we face because we aren't going to win games if we don't put up runs."

New Smyrna Beach got back in the game when Meeks hit a three-run home run in fifth inning to cut the lead to 8-6. The Barracudas scored once more in the sixth inning, but Eau Gallie held on to win the game 8-7.

New Smyrna Beach ends the season with a record of 10-16.

Eau Gallie (20-6) will travel to Fort Myers for a state semifinal game against Columbia on Thursday at 4 p.m.
