Monday is the first day of school in Jacksonville: Here's a look at opening days from 1975 to 2010

Last week in this space we ran photos from the 1930s to 1970 from the first day (which in Duval County this year is Aug. 15).

In 2006, Thelma Ray, a crossing guard for 14 years, gets a hug from brothers David (left), 9, and Dakoby Jones, 8, on the first day of school at Pine Forest Elementary School of the Arts. Her relationship with Pine Forest goes back to its opening in 1963 when she was its first PTA president. In 2007 she was among those honored at an annual hall of fame banquet for the J.P. Small Foundation, which helps youths build development skills.
