Monday Seacoast roundup: Portsmouth baseball drops season opener

PORTSMOUTH -The Nashua North High School baseball team rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 win over Portsmouth in a Division I matchup at Portsmouth High School on Monday night.

Portsmouth's Boden Driscoll allowed two hits and no runs over six innings, striking out eight. Sebastian Lampert had two hits for the Clippers, while Matthew Minckler, Elliot Miles and Jake Carlisle all had one.

BASEBALL

Dover 15

Merrimack 3

MERRIMACK – Ryder Aubin had one hit and five RBIs, and Andrew Rapoza had two hits and three RBIs as Dover cruised in its Division I opener.

Alex Cook (two hits, run), Jacob Mangum (hit, three runs scored), Timmy MacGregor (two runs, RBI), Ryan Sullivan (hit, three RBIs), and Parker Fleury (hit, RBI) led the Dover offense.

Cook struck out six and allowed three runs over three innings, earning the win.

Spaulding 3

ROCHESTER – Pat Callaghan had one hit and two walks for Spaulding in its Division I season-opening loss.

Bradley Grinnell and Hunter Crawford each threw a scoreless inning in relief for the Red Raiders.

Londonderry 8

Winnacunnet 0

LONDONDERRY – Ethan Nowak had two of Winnacunnet’s five hits in its Division I season-opening loss.

Jackson Larck, Miles Pratt and Pat Desmond all had a hit for the Warriors. Londonderry scored five unearned runs on four Winnacunnet errors. The Lancers broke open a 2-0 game with three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Londonderry’s Connor Fennell struck out nine and allowed three hits over six-plus innings. Winnacunnet’s Jason Pinsonnault allowed two hits and one earned run, striking out two over 4 1/3 innings.

Exeter 9

Timberlane 0

EXETER - Cam Keaveney allowed two hits over four innings, striking out and earning this Division I win for the Blue Hawks.

Keaveney also had a hit and two RBIs for the Blue Hawks, Shea LaFleur had two hits and scored two runs in the win, while Roger Davis had two hits and three RBIs.

Exeter's Evan Louie allowed two hits and struck out two in two innings.

Somersworth 2

Berlin 1

SOMERSWORTH - Zephan Yoder's no-hitter led the Hilltoppers to a season-opening Division III win.

Yoder went seven innings, allowed one unearned run, walked five and struck out 11.

Cam Dubois had an RBI single for Somersworth, and Lucas Kelly scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a passed ball.

Carter Morgan had a double and a walk for the Hilltoppers.

SOFTBALL

Winnacunnet 4

Londonderry 2

HAMPTON – Lucy Gelbstein had two hits, while Halisa Carter, Cayleigh Adams, Maddy Eaton, Kate Gagne and Joslyn Snow all had one for Winnacunnet in its Division I season opener.

Eaton also had two RBIs, while Snow and Maeva Shapiro both had one. Eaton struck out six, earning the win.

Portsmouth 24

Nashua North 7

NASHUA – Sophomore Sydney Pettis hit a grand slam, and also earned the win, allowing five hits over seven innings in this Division I season opener.

Portsmouth had a 10-run third inning highlighted by Pettis' grand slam and Jordan Ovadek's home run. Abby Nersesian, Evy Douglass, Laura Milks, Abby Sargent, and Brigid Cadle all had hits for the Clippers.

Addison Carroll, Nersesian and Milks all starred defensively for the Clippers.

St. Thomas Aquinas 9

Belmont 1

DOVER -- Ashleigh von der Linden tossed a complete game, striking out 14 to lead St. Thomas Aquinas to a season-opening Division III win.

von der Linden allowed one hit and one earned run, and also had two hits and two RBIs.

Abbie Gaynor was 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored for the Saints, while Caroline Mollica had a hit, an RBI and scored a run. Teammate Maddie Hoyt had a hit and an RBI.

Somersworth 6

Berlin 4

SOMERSWORTH - The Hilltoppers rallied in the sixth inning to win its home opener to begin the season in a Division III matchup.

Danna Dyer went the distance, striking out six and earning the win.

Riley Barton had an RBI which scored Dyer, Emma Hudson had an RBI double that scored Morgan Williams who doubled.

Gabby Lensky, Jaiden Timmons and Aby Lambert all had RBI hits in the sixth.

Exeter 15

EXETER - The reigning Division I champions picked up right where they left off with a 10-run margin of victory in a Division I matchup.

Exeter's Kristen Beebe earned the win, allowing six hits, struck out 15 and walked four.

Annie Christiana had two hits, walked three times and scored four runs for the Blue Hawks, Summer Leclerc had three hits, including a two-run home run, and scored three runs, Chloe Brunelle had three hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs, Kristen Bickford had a hit, two runs and three RBIs and Edy Crawford and Dejah Rondeau each had two hits and two RBIs.

Avery Allard played well defensively in right field in her first varsity start.

Coe-Brown 8

PETERBOROUGH - Emma Broadstone, Jayden Porter and Courtney Thomas all had two hits, including a double each for Coe-Brown in its Division II season opener.

Annie Jerome added a three-run double for Coe-Brown, while Audrey Perron had an RBI single. Madi DeCota had three hits, and struck out 15 over seven innings, allowing two hits.

BOYS LACROSSE

DURHAM - Freshmen Tyler Callander and Alex Moody each had four goals, leading Oyster River to this Division II win.

Callander also had two assists. Evan Plourde added two goals and four assists for the Bobcats, while Sam Guilmette had a goal, and Harry Tudor had an assist.

Oyster River senior goalie Finn Mason had nine saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Winnacunnet 12

Timberlane 4

HAMPTON - Maia Delano's five goals led Winnacunnet to this Division II season-opening win.

Sky Mace added three goals for the Warriors, while Shea Graham and Abby Wilber both had two.

EXETER - For the second straight match, the Blue Hawks swept the board and improved to 2-0 in a Division I contest.

Exeter's Charlie Gaughan (No. 1, 8-0), Dom Theos (No. 2, 8-0), Robert Berthel (No. 3, 8-3), Ryan Byrnes, (No. 4, 8-1), Owen Simon (No. 5, 8-0) and Lance Makabali (No. 6, 8-5) all won in singles.

In doubles, Gaughan and Theos won 8-2 at No.1, Byrnes and Oliver Berardino won 8-3 at No. 2, and Berthel and Nick Myers won 8-1 at No. 3.

DURHAM - Oyster River continued its winning ways in its Division II home opener.

Alec Scarlat (8-1), James Li (8-0), Shashu Srivatsan (8-4), Connor Monette (8-1) and Simon Bliss (8-1) all won in singles matches.

John Henry and Li won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, Srivatsan and Bliss won 8-3 at No. 2, and Scarlat and Monette won 8-1 at No. 3.

DOVER - Dover protected its home court and picked up its third win of the season in a Division I matchup.

Judah Payeur (No. 2, 8-6), Pat Carroll (No. 3, 8-6), Colby Bigelow (No. 5, 8-1) and Evan Weete (No. 6, 8-0) all won in singles matches.

Diego Lopez and Payeur won 9-8 at No. 1 doubles, and Gavin Chu and Logan Spagna won 8-2 at No. 3.

Spaulding 5

Concord 4

ROCHESTER - Cam Brochu (No. 1, 8-6), Jackson Emrich (No. 3, 8-2), and Camden Smith (No. 6, 8-6) all won singles matches to help Spaulding (1-1) win its first Division I match of the season.

Emrich and Cam Bastein won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, and Brochu and George Mitropoules won 8-3 at No. 2.

Goffstown 5

GOFFSTOWN - The Clippers won two matches in both singles and doubles in this Division II loss.

Raphael Hey Tenne (No. 2, 8-3) and Jiles Tracz (No. 5, 8-2) won in singles for Portsmouth, while Josh White and Henry Anderson won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Tracz and Amitay Hey Tenne won 8-5 at No. 3.

DERRY – The Green Wave improved to 3-0 on the season with this Division I sweep; their second of the season.

Taylor Wilson (No. 1, 8-2), Joci Faasen (No. 2, 8-2), Tory Vitko (No. 3, 8-0), Riya Ramdev (No. 4, 8-2), Kate Ross (No. 5, 8-2) and Mia Mozzoni (No. 6, 8-2) all won in singles action.

In doubles, Wilson and Faasen won 8-3 at No. 1, Vitko and Ramdev won 8-0 at No. 2, and Sarah Bastille and Ashlynn Swierk won 8-3 at No. 3.

PORTSMOUTH – The Clippers swept singles, and took two of three in doubles in this Division II win.

Sophia Jundi (No. 1, 8-3), Avery Porter (No. 2, 8-1), Cailey Cook (No. 3, 8-3), Mia Edwards (No. 4, 8-6), Aiofe Ryan (No. 5, 8-1) and Elyse White (No. 6, 8-1) all won their respective singles matches.

Jundi and Cook won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, Porter and Edwards won 8-2 at No. 2., and Ryan and Clara Daw won 9-7 at No. 3.

In doubles, Gagnon/Mitropoulos won 9-7 at No. 1 , Farrington and Hannah Stewart won 8-0 at No. 2, and Gosselin and Taitely Leslie won 8-2 at No. 3.

MILFORD - The Warriors improved to 3-0 on the season, 2-0 on the road, after winning all its matches in this Division II contest.

Polina Makarenko (No. 1, 8-0), Stella Sebeny (No. 2, 8-0), Amelia Dumont (No. 3, 8-1), Sidney Whalen (No. 4, 8-0), Mackenzie O'Regan (No. 5, 8-0), and Grace VanderEls (No. 6, 8-0) all won in singles for the Warriors.

Makarenko and Sebeny won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, Emerson Parish and Hajna Bihan won 8-5 at No. 2 and Amelia Shannon and Keira Andruskevich won 8-0 at No. 3.

WOLFEBORO - The Bobcats improved to 3-0 with this Division II win.

Sofie Gibson (No. 1, 8-0), Clea Gibson (No. 2, 8-0), Kathryn Demarest (No. 3, 8-1), Sofia Karageorgos (No. 4, 8-1), Siena Schaier (No. 5, 8-0) and Maggie Farwell (No. 6, 8-0) won their respective singles matches.

Diana Pivirotto (No. 1, 8-1), Irina Steinberg (No. 2, 8-5), Anna Seifert (No. 4, 9-7) and Morgan Hoyt (No. 5, 8-5) all won in singles matches for STA (1-1), while Steinberg and Julia Behre won 8-5 in No. 2 doubles.

MANCHESTER - Ava Iacabuci (No. 2, 8-1) and Elsa Bishop (No. 6, 8-3) won in singles for Exeter in this Division I loss.

DOVER - Clayton Johnson won three events and Caden Mourgenous won two, leading Dover to this Division I dual meet win.

Johnson won the 3,200 (11 minutes, 31.01 seconds), 1,600 (4:54.04) and 800 (2:16.40), while Mourgenous won the 100 (11.78) and 200 (24.05).

Other wins from Dover were turned in by Travis Benincasa (110 hurdles, 18.54), Ethan Proto (400, 56.4), Aidan Kirk (300 hurdles, 45.18), Dylan Maguire (javelin, 111-7), Hunter Buskirk (discus, 122-0), Brady McInness (high jump, 5-5) and Sam Grube (triple jump, 36-3).

GIRLS TRACK

Dover 96

Spaulding 46

DOVER – Margaret Spuler and Grace Nkounkou each won two events, leading Dover to this Division dual meet win.

Spuler won the 1,600 (5:48.78) and 3,200 (12:49.84) for the Green Wave, while Nkounkou won the 100 (13.91) and pole vault (7-0).

Other wins from Dover came from Maxine Goard (400, 1:11.06), Anique Poulin (800, 2:28.42), Demaiyah Woodard (200, 28.92), McKenna Morrison (javelin, 78-2), and Zoe Kirk (triple jump, 29-9).
