Monday's high school highlights: Veach's double double paces Wapello girls basketball team

Quinn Veach's double double paced Wapello High School to a 43-23 win over Hillcrest Academy in a SEI Superconference North Division girls basketball game at Wapello Monday night.

Veach finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Arrows' Serah Shafer scored 10 points, Tatum Wolford had eight and Lindsy Massner added seven.

Hillcrest's Esther Hughes led all scorers with 18 points.

Wapello (8-8, 6-6) plays at Lone Tree Tuesday, then hosts Winfield-Mount Union Friday on Senior Night.

Hillcrest Academy fell to 1-14 (0-10).

HOLY TRINITY 52, CARDINAL 30: Holy Trinity coasted to a South Division win over the Comets at Fort Madison.

Holy Trinity led 28-11 at halftime. The Crusaders (10-6, 10-3) play at Danville Tuesday and host Central Lee Friday.

Cardinal is 4-13 (2-11).

NO. 3 ILLINI WEST 49, LEWISTOWN 30: The third-ranked (Illnois Class 2A) Chargers got back on the winning path with a victory at Lewistown, Illinois.

Rylee Reed led the Chargers with 16 points, while Reagan Reed added eight points. DeLaina Lambert, Hallie Ray and Marie DeSotel each scored six points for the Chargers.

Illini West improved to 24-2; Lewistown is 11-13.

Illini West will host West Prairie at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at LaHarpe, Illinois.

BOYS BASKETBALL

CARDINAL 54, HOLY TRINITY 53: Three Comets reached double figures in a South Division win over Holy Trinity at Fort Madison.

Dawson Lewis led Cardinal with 25 points. Blaine Bryant scored 12 and Griffin Greiner added 10.

Conner Gehling led Holy Trinity with 19 points. Luke Hellige scored 15.

Holy Trinity (3-13, 3-9) plays at Danville Tuesday and hosts Central Lee Friday.

HILLCREST 48, WAPELLO 44: Luke Schrock scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Ravens to victory in a North Division game at Wapello.

Grant Bender scored 12 points for Hillcrest Academy and Aiden Krabill had 10.

Jackson Lanz led Wapello with 16 points. Maddox Griffin scored 12 and Casey Short added 10.

Wapello (8-8, 7-5) plays at Lone Tree Tuesday and hosts Winfield-Mount Union Friday. Hillcrest Academy improved to 11-3 (9-3).
