Monday's high school scores: Durfee's Cambra comes up big; Case boys win on Senior Day

DARTMOUTH — Ethan Cambra got his moment to shine for the Durfee baseball team on Monday.

Cambra tripled with the bases loaded and scored the eventual winning run on a wild pitch in the third inning as the Hilltoppers hung on to beat Bishop Stang, 4-3, in a non-league contest at Bishop Stang High School.

Alexis Montilla picked up the victory on the hill for Durfee (10-8) in relief. He pitched 4.1 innings, allowing three runs, scattered seven hits, four strikeouts and a walk. Aaron Ferriera started and pitched 2.2 innings, giving up no runs.

Cambra finished with two hits, a run scored and three RBI. Josh Boria had a double and scored a run.

Justin Gouveia and Kaiden Peltier led the Spartans (11-5) with a pair of hits apiece. Alex DiGiammo (RBI), Ryan Jones, Seamus Marshall (run scored), Ryan Martins (walk) and

Nicholas Nasiff each finished with a hit.

The Hilltoppers travel to Brockton while Stang hosts Bridgewater-Raynham on Wednesday.

Diman 7, West Bridgewater 1

The Bengals rolled past league opponent West Bridgewater.

Samuel Perry pitched a complete-game win for Diman (14-2), allowing just two hits, no walks, no earned runs while striking out 13. Perry had a no-hitter through five innings.

Offensively, Byron Bell and Perry each had a pair of hits and scored two runs. Jacob Pedder went 2-for-2 with three RBI.

The Bengals host Bristol Plymouth on Wednesday.

Atlantis Charter 9, Cape Cod Tech. 1

The Tritons ran away with their game against Cape Cod Tech.

Ethan Frias pitched seven strong innings for Atlantis (7-8) striking out 12 batters. He also had two hits and two RBI at the plate. Dom DeOliveria collected a pair of hits and an RBI while Jaryn Mitchel finished with a hit and an RBI.

The Tritons host the Rising Tide on Tuesday.

Westport 14, Southeastern 10

The Wildcats clinched a postseason berth with a win against Southeastern.

Shawn Lavoie gutted out five innings for the win for Westport (9-8), striking out five for his third win. Cameron Leary pitched the last two innings and struck out three.

Offensively, Chris Wilson went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Leary had two hits, scored two runs, a stolen base and an RBI. Luke Finglas collected three hits, scored three runs, stole a base and had an RBI. Connor James had a hit, two RBI and scored a run.

The Wildcats host West Bridgewater on Tuesday.

Joseph Case 4, Fairhaven 2

The Cardinals opened up an early lead and hung on to beat league opponent Fairhaven on Senior Day.

Tyler Cabral collected the win on the hill for Case (12-6; 7-5 in South Coast Conference), allowing five hits, an earned run while striking out five. Ryland Pacheco pitched the final inning for the save.

Will LeBoeuf led the offense with a pair of hits and an RBI. Aidan Bates (run scored), and Jacob Poitras each finished with a hit and an RBI. Adam Gracie and Jake Pontes each had a hit and a run scored while Adam Jaglowski had a pinch-hit double.

The Cardinals travel to Somerset Berkley on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

Somerset Berkley 2, Seekonk 1

The Raiders squeaked out a win against league opponent Seekonk.

Laney Martin got the win in the circle for SBR (14-4), striking out nine, allowing four hits, and an unearned run in seven innings. She also had a solo home run in the first inning.

Alexis Ridge had a pair of hits and an RBI. Mary Jo-Laudati finished with a double and a run scored. Lynnsey Bumpus collected a hit in the victory.

Fairhaven 3, Joseph Case 0

The Cardinals had their eight-game winning streak snapped by league opponent Fairhaven on the road.

Hailey Berube went the distance on the mound for Case (12-5), striking out six batters and giving up just one earned run.

The Cardinals host Somerset Berkley on Wednesday.

Southeastern 18, Westport 2

The Wildcats lost to league opponent Southeastern.

Tess Silvia led the way for Westport (5-11) with three hits, an RBI and a stolen base.

Braylin Montigny also contributed a home run.

The Wildcats host Tri-County on Wednesday.

Sunday

Bishop Stang 12, Old Rochester 4

The Spartans controlled their game against Old Rochester on Sunday.

Mikayla Brightman went 4-for-5 including a home run, three runs scored and two RBI for Stang (4-13). Emma Gomes chipped in with three hits, three RBI and a run scored. Grace Motto (two runs, two RBI), Katie Manzone (two runs), Cianna Sylvia (run,  two RBI) and Olivia Brousseau (two RBI) each finished with a pair of hits

Hannah Fortin pitched the complete game, scattering eight hits, two earned runs, a walk and struck out two. Michaela Cousineau also had her first varsity hit (double).

The Spartans travel to Archbishop Williams on Saturday.

BOYS TENNIS

Bishop Connolly 4, New Bedford 1

The Cougars won their match against non-league opponent New Bedford.

Brian Ward (7-5, 1-6, 6-1) and Alex Krynicki (7-5, 6-2) each won their singles match for Connolly (8-5; 4-2 in Mayflower Athletic Conference). Luke Santos and Logan Reis (6-2, 6-2) won at first doubles while Ben Costa and Henry Keane (6-3, 2-6, 6-2) won in three sets at second doubles.

The Cougars travel to Saint John Paul II on Wednesday.

Case 4, Seekonk 1

The Cardinals took four of five matches from league opponent Seekonk.

Caden Capaldo improved his record to 9-2 after winning his second singles for Case (6-7). Josh Harrington and Chris Liberatore sealed the victory with their third win of the year at second doubles, 6-3, 6-1.

New Bedford 4, Bishop Connolly 1

The Cougars dropped four of five matches against non-league opponent New Bedford.

The Cougars (0-13; 0-6 in MAC) host Saint John Paul II on Wednesday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Durfee 3, Dighton-Rehoboth 0

The Hilltoppers won three straight sets — 25-14,25-13, and 27-25 — and swept Dighton-Rehoboth on the road.

Danny Matuszek had a huge day at the service line for Durfee (7-12) with 23 service points and five aces. Jack Gauvin had 26 assists and Camron DeMello collected seven kill shots. Tony Gomes finished with six kill shots and Mac Reed ended with18 digs.

The Hilltoppers host Bellingham on Tuesday.

BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK

The Bengals finished second overall out of 10 teams during Monday's Mayflower League championship.

Jacob Monte won the 400 hurdles (1.00.65), and placed fourth in 110 hurdles (16.65). Cashton Richard took second in 400 hurdles (1.01.6) while Nathan Nascimento finished in 2nd in 200 (24.08). Tayvon Devoe had a second place showing in the shot put (36’10”) and Ezra Cote took fourth in the 400 (55.65).

Diman (8-1) will next compete at the Division IV state meet at Notre Dame of Hingham Thursday.

GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK

The Bengals placed third out of 10 teams during the Mayflower League championship.

Placing first overall for Diman and earning Mayflower All-Star honors were Inez Medeiros in the 100 (13.08) and 200 (26.93), Sarai Benitez in the 400m (1:03.62) and Kaitlyn Nickelson in the high jump (5’ 0”).

Other top four finishers were Emma Foley (100 hurdles and long jump), Katie Miranda (discus), Grace Flattery (high jump), Eden McCausland (800) and Abby Lyne (javelin).

Diman (7-1-1) will next compete at the Division IV state meet at Notre Dame of Hingham Thursday.
