BOYS BASKETBALL

MASSILLON 80, GLENOAK 73 Chris Knight scored 25 points to help Massillon win on the road. Elijah Farrington also had 22 points for the Tigers. Scott was the leading scorer for GlenOak with 27 points. The Golden Eagles have now lost two straight games heading into the postseason.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MCKINLEY 48, EUCLID 6 McKinley did not allow Euclid to score more than two points in a quarter as the Bulldogs opened Division I, Northeast 1 sectional tournament play with a victory at home. Three McKinley players scored in double figures. They were Paris Stokes with 12 points and Sidnee Bowden and Jayla Sparks with 10 points apiece.

HUDSON 47, LAKE 45 Hudson outscored Lake 13-7 in the fourth quarter as the Blue Streaks fell at home in a Division I, Northeast 3 sectional semifinal game. Emma Anderson led Lake with 16 points. Serenitee Johnson also had 13 points for the Blue Streaks.

PERRY 44, BRUSH 37 Macy Takacs scored 14 points for Perry as the Panthers opened the Division I, Northeast 3 sectional tournament with a win at home.

THOMAS AQUINAS 70, WARREN JFK 52 Avixer Card-Tarver scored 20 points as the Knights routed visiting Warren JFK to earn at least a share of their second straight Portage Trail Conference championship. Tajon Grogan and Julius Kimbrough added 16 points each for Aquinas (14-7, 8-1), which can clinch the outright title with a win next week at Mogadore. Michael Condoleon's 16 points led Warren JFK (15-4, 7-2). Devonte Taylor and Nick Ryan added 10 points each.

PERRY 42, HOOVER 37 Joel Brown and Zander Sabin scored 12 points apiece as the host Panthers snapped a 28-game Federal League losing streak. Brown also grabbed seven rebounds and dished off three assists for Perry (5-15, 1-11), which hadn't won a league game since Jan. 15, 2021 at home vs. GlenOak. Perry has won three straight games overall after a 10-game losing streak. Hunter Ross led Hoover (8-12, 3-9) with 12 points. The Vikings were 3-of-20 from 3-point range outside of Ross' 3-of-6.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC 55, LAKE 39 Three Central Catholic players scored in double figures as the Crusaders won on the road. They were Luke Vlacovsky with 19 points, Dylan Rouse with 13 points and Damonte' Degraffenreid with 11 points. Chance Casenhiser led Lake with 18 points. The Blue Streaks fell behind 13-7 after the first quarter and could not recover.

MINERVA 64, EAST CANTON 56 Garrett Gonzalez scored 32 points to help Minerva outlast East Canton in double overtime. Rowen Hoffee also contributed 17 points for the Lions. Caleb Shilling scored 28 points to lead East Canton.

Liston Seibert, Austin McBurney and Ryder Hartshorn each pinned their opponents as Perry moved to 5-0 in league competition, a half match ahead of Lake (5-1) in the league standings. Perry travels to Jackson next week with a chance to earn the outright title.

Monday's girls basketball highlights

JACKSON 57, WOOSTER 48 Double-doubles from Leena Patibandla and Lauren Pallotta helped power Jackson to a second straight win. Patibandla finished 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Polar Bears (11-9). Pallotta had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

MARLINGTON 73, WARREN HOWLAND 39 Elizabeth Mason scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half Marlington rolled past Warren Howland. Mason also had eight rebounds, six steals and four assists for the Dukes, who improved to 19-2. Chelsea Evanich had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Maria Warner hit four 3s and also scored 18 points.
