But even with the show expanding in others ways fans of the flagship show are still wondering if the series will ever be renewed for a sixth season. Here is everything we know about this and if it could come to pass, but fair warning this article contains spoilers for Money Heist season 5.

Will Money Heist be renewed for Season 6?

The short answer is no, Money Heist came to an end with its fifth season and the show's creators have already confirmed that the series will not return for a sixth outing. This may be upsetting for fans to hear but the reason why this is the case is because the creative team wanted to end things on a high note.

Before it was released the show's fifth season, which was split into two parts, was advertised as the show's final season, meaning fans shouldn't expect that to change in future, regardless of how popular the franchise continues to be.

At a press conference for the fifth season, Money Heist actor Álvaro Morte shared how he felt it was the right time to finish the show, whilst it was still on a high per Metro.

The actor explained: "The show is coming to an end when it had to come to an end. It’s the perfect time. We cannot squeeze the characters anymore, we’ve taken the best from them and I think it’s a really smart decision to stop here."

Morte added that the show's conclusion was a "way of giving fans what they truly deserve", saying: "We could have squeezed it a bit more but we would have been running the risk of everything coming to shambles. So leaving at the peak is a present we give to our fans."

But it isn't over for Money Heist fans, because Berlin is a prequel to the hit Spanish series. (Netflix)

So how exactly did the flagship series end? In some ways it was sad and in others happy. Let's stick with the positives first: The gang of thieves, what was left of them, were able to successfully get away with the Bank of Spain heist. It wasn't easy, and it wasn't without bloodshed, but those that made it out were the richer for it both literally and figuratively.

Characters like Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) and Nairobi (Alba Flores) were lost along the way, but like Berlin their legacy lives on through the success of their fellow thieves. The fact that several of them survived means that the door is always open for more, but it may be the right call to leave it on the perfect note and the show will continue on in another way with Berlin.

Berlin and Money Heist seasons 1 to 5 are out now on Netflix.
