Netflix dropped the official trailer for its upcoming animated movie "The Monkey King" on Monday.

About the film: Inspired by the classic Chinese story “Journey to the West,” the Netflix animated movie follows an egotistical monkey as he fights over 100 demons and a Dragon King. Along for the ride is a young village girl who will teach him about humility and the impact of small acts in the world.

Cast and crew: The film boasts a star-studded ensemble cast, featuring Jimmy O. Yang as the Monkey King; Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as the Monkey King's companion, Lin; Nan Li as the Monkey King's magical stick; Bowen Yang as Dragon King; Jo Koy as Benbo; Andrew Pang as Mayor; Stephanie Hsu as Mayor’s Wife; Kuno Inghram as Mayor’s Son; BD Wong as Buddha; Hoon Lee as Jade Emperor; Ron Yuan as Babbo, Andrew Kishino as the Demon of Havoc and King Yama; Sophie Wu as Red Girl; Jodi Long as Wangmu; and James Sie as Elder Monkey.

Directed by Anthony Stacchi (“The Boxtrolls,” “Open Season”), “The Monkey King” uses a screenplay written by Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman.

The film is produced by Peilin Chou, recognized for her work on acclaimed films such as “Over the Moon” and “Abominable.” Stephen Chow, known for his contributions to the films “Kung Fu Hustle” and “Shaolin Soccer,” serves as executive producer.

Release date: “The Monkey King” is set to premiere on Netflix on Aug. 18.
